Steven B. Deitelzweig, MD, MMM, FACP, FSVMB, RVT, is Vice President of Medical Affairs, System Chairman of Hospital Medicine, Assistant Program Director for Internal Medicine, staff physician in the Section of Vascular Medicine, and Past-President of the medical staff at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition, he is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana.

After earning his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine,
Dr. Deitelzweig completed a residency in Internal Medicine through Cornell University Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College and Graduate School of Medicine/North Shore University Hospital, New York. Subsequently, he completed fellowships in Vascular Medicine and Hepatology through the Department of Internal Medicine at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation, New Orleans.

As a principal investigator or subinvestigator on numerous clinical trials, Dr. Deitelzweig's current research interests focus on venous thromboembolism, low-molecular-weight heparin, direct thrombin inhibitors and other new anticoagulants, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute decompensated heart failure, and type 2 diabetes.

An extensive lecturer, Dr. Deitelzweig has presented regionally, nationally, and internationally on a variety of topics, such as heart failure, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, acute coronary syndrome, and anticoagulation. An accomplished author, he has been published in Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Journal of Hospital Medicine, Thrombosis and Hemostasis, American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, Annals of Long-Term Care, Vascular Medicine, and Ochsner Journal, among others. He serves on the editorial board for Hospitalists News, ACP Hospitalist and is a reviewer for Journal of Hospital Medicine, Chest, and Thrombosis and Hemostasis.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and a member and fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Society for Vascular Medicine and Biology, Dr. Deitelzweig is also a member of the Society for Hospital Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, among others. In addition, Dr. Deitelzweig is Medical Director of the Hospice of Greater New Orleans.

The recipient of many honors and awards, Dr. Deitelzweig earned the George M. Jaffin Scholarly Activity Award for Excellence in Research, 2007 Ochsner Health System Physician Leader of the Year, and Outstanding student for the Tulane Masters of Medical Management class of 2008.

He is a charter member for the Society of Hospital Medicine and has been course director for the Ochsner/Emory University-sponsored Southern Hospital Medicine meeting for 9 years, member of the leadership task force, practice management, and annual meeting committee for several years. He is currently the Vice President for the Gulf States Hospitalists Society.
